Complementary Colors
It's Opposite Day
Finding colors in Freeville
I’ve had a long love affair with complementary colors—like purple/magenta and mint green, and blue and orange—although I’ve never been sure why.
There’s something exciting about the tension that exists when looking at complementary colors. In my mind these combinations make sense. There’s a wee vibration that makes the colors come alive when they touch each other.
Growing up, the colors I liked tended to be various shades of blue and that’s about it. As an adult, I dropped blue, added an occasional green garment, but found myself eventually embracing black as my color of choice. It wasn’t until I began painting about six years ago that I realized how awesome complementary colors were. Not that I would ever wear them.
Fortunately I don’t have to because I can turn to nature to find and admire my favorite color combinations in birds like the Eastern Bluebird and the Purple Gallinule.

Love the photos. I wear orange and blue a lot.
Love this.
