Hello, Reykjavik
I’ve missed you
Coming into Keflavik airport never disappoints. I start getting excited as the plane descends because you never know what the weather is going to be like on the ground. Last year I landed in an historic late October blizzard that closed down the city. This morning I felt like humming a few bars from the corny song from Oklahoma, “0h, what a beautiful morning . . .”
I had a couple hours to do the most touristy things I could think of that I could walk to from the bus station. Here are some tourist photos:
The statue of Lief Eriksson was given to Iceland by the United States in 1930 in recognition of Lief Eriksson’s foray into North America (founding the short-lived settlement of Vinland), and in recognition of 1,000 years of Iceland’s Althing (parliament).
A couple of street scapes:
Interior bits of the grooviest coffeehouse in town, Reykjavik Roasters:
While I was drinking my latte and eating a croissant (both of which were very good), a French influencer and her entourage swanned in. I only knew she was an influencer because someone said, “There’s an influencer.” She proceeded to order then stand in front of the counter where she fixed her hair, put on her biggest, red-lipstick smile, and snapped her selfie in front of the baristas.
Lordy, Lordy. I’ve lived too long. Time to trudge back to the bus station.
And throw a few bucks my way if you’re enjoying The Loneliest Places!

So glad you made it. I’d have a similar reaction as you to the influencer but not that I’ve lived too long. My thoughts run along the lines of “What are you thinking?” “Why would anyone be so intrigued by you?” “Don’t you have anything more interesting to do?”
Glad you are back in your happy place, Rachel. I have not been back in decades, but Iceland is one of my favorite places in the world . Looking forward to your reports.
