Wow, Rachel. So glad C. is okay and that mindless TV exists to get you through. It will, for C, make a great story to tell many years from now. Glad she has a bakery nearby as she recovers.
Jesus. That she lived to tell the tale, and that you told it so well. Hurrah for the bear cub whose cry saved the day and your daughter.
Long distance walks can have terrifying moments, but this one takes the cake. So very glad C made it out alive and intact and thank you for writing about it.
O my stars. No words. Ice cream and ridiculous shows for all. Sylvia Borenstein, Buddhist teacher, once said that all her training and equilibrium could be demolished by two words over the phone: “hello, mom?” May you all mend, inside and out
I just got off the phone with Clara and she is doing well and the foot is on her mend. She is getting some well-deserved enforced downtime, which is a good thing. She’s is heading to Perugia in Italy and staying with the nuns at Assisi for three days, which should give her some more contemplative time.
This sounds terrifying, Rachel, both in the moment and the images that keep recurring of what happened and what could have been. I'm glad she kept a cool and clear head from the bite to the bakery to calling her parents. I hope you too are recovering from this scary event. It's one of those things a parent never wants to hear but one way or another is inevitable. So glad your daughter is OK.
Wow. 😳 I have an adventurous daughter too and know the feeling of hearing "first of all, I'm all right." I'm sending this to her. So thankful YOUR girl is all right!! ❤️ ( And thanks be for REI boots!)
OMG. It would be hard not to ask her to come home RIGHT NOW, but you have to respect she did all the right things in the circumstances. Brave adventurer. Maybe a new movie out of this trip. So glad she is basically okay, although that foot may take some time to heal. It is good we don't always know what our children are doing.
😱Your powerful, tough, smart C is a brave, adventuresome wonder-woman. I hope her experience does not dampen her drive to explore and enjoy the natural world—hope she is able to heal from the injury and the trauma of the attack. Bless that noise-making cub!!!!
Oh my God, Rachel. I’m so glad she’s OK. OK ish. And you are you OK ish? I will never forget that you said (or wrote) that you watched endless episodes of ‘Frasier’ while processing a different trauma. Good to know ‘sister wives’ can do the trick. May lucky spirits, gods, and whatever watch over her.

Thanks, Priscilla. Bakeries can make most things a-okay
For some odd reason, my comment wouldn't post and then it posted three times! Sorry, for the confusion.

Thanks, Sheila. It's her story to tell so I just put out the bullet-point version.

OMG - so glad she is okay! So scary!
Thanks, Liz.

Thanks, Andrea. I just got off a FaceTime call with her and she's doing well - foot is on the mend, and she's gotten some much-needed down time.
Phew!! I'm so glad to hear that.
Rachel you've raised a strong, clear thinking daughter. Well done to you and C both. May she -- and you -- heal well from the event.
Thanks, Kerry.

There's no stopping these strong, young women. And yes, hooray for those boots!
Holy moly!
I know!
Yipes!
What the what?? I hope C. writes a book about her travels.
Me, too!
OMG, Rachel... Oh. My. God. Thank goodness she is okay, but holy shit.
I know!

Yes, hooray for the cub!

Omgomgomg
She's a tough cookie
Shiver. But she is astoundingly tough.
Yes indeed!
